Market Resolution
How Sight markets are resolved using onchain price data and smart contract rules.
Token price markets are resolved using onchain price data and smart contract rules. NFT and stock AMM markets are resolved by setting one winning outcome after trading has closed. See AMM markets.
For token price markets, the round’s opening and closing reference prices are compared.
- If the closing price is higher: UP
- If the closing price is lower: DOWN
- If the opening and closing prices are equal: refund
The final result is determined by the smart contract and recorded onchain.
Opening and closing prices
When a round starts, a reference price is set. This value is the round’s price to beat.
When the round ends, the closing reference price is recorded and compared with the opening price.
These two values determine the market result.
Price source
Sight uses defined onchain price sources to determine market results.
The price data used during settlement is processed by the smart contract, and the result is recorded onchain.
Prices displayed on external exchanges do not change the outcome of a Sight market.
Why can CEX prices differ?
Prices displayed on Binance, Coinbase, or other exchanges may differ slightly from the onchain reference price used by Sight due to differences in liquidity and data sources.
Sight markets use only the defined settlement price.
When is a market locked?
A typical round lasts approximately 15 minutes.
New positions are closed during the final ~30 seconds of the round.
Once the market is locked, no new positions can be opened.
After the round ends
When the round ends:
- The closing reference price is recorded
- The smart contract compares the opening and closing prices
- The market is resolved as UP, DOWN, or refund
- Winning positions and positions eligible for a refund become available to claim

Refund
A round is resolved as a refund when:
- The opening and closing prices are equal, or
- Only one side has bets (no opposing participants), or
- The price data required for settlement cannot be retrieved validly
One-sided rounds refund even if the price moved in favor of that side — otherwise a solo “win” would only deduct fees from your own stake.
Balances eligible for a refund become available to claim.

The prices shown in the Sight interface help you track the market.
For the market outcome, the onchain smart contract settlement result is authoritative.
This ensures that results do not depend on manual intervention or prices from external exchanges.

Sight market results can be verified on the blockchain.
Using the relevant onchain data, users can check:
- Round timing
- Opening price
- Closing price
- Final result
- Position transactions
- Claim transactions
